JETHRO TULL - FOLKEST
Castello di Udine, 16 Luglio 1999

Hello,
My name is Vincent Lagana` (V&L ImAgEs http://the-musicbox.com/ ), a freelance photographer born in Brooklyn, N.Y. but, living in Pordenone, Italy for the last 22 years (45min. N.E. of Venice) . Since 1994 I've been shooting live concert photography primarily focusing on Rock & Roll, Progressive Rock, and some Blues/Rock artists (though some are not, Tito Puente, and Andreas Wollenwieder are not "Rock" music). Although coming from a family that was involved with the Opera, Neapolitan, Big Band, Mel Tourme`, Domenico Modugno, Louis Prima, Louis Armstrong, Frankie Lane to Sinatra & Dino, and Classical music, Rock & Roll, especially 60's - 70's Rock, holds a special place in my music world.
I'm especially attached because is was one of the most influential impacts of global expression towards what was evolving sociologically during that decade or so. I personally believe it was the strongest "say" we had to stop the Vietnam War, and claim more civil rights for all ( "Power To The People" - John Lenon). The music was creative, and of all various aspects. In the 60's one was not labeled a form of music listener. In a matter of days or weeks people would go to see, or at least hear daily on the same radio station (NB not different stations but the same FM station) Neil Young, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Joan Baez, Frank Zappa, Simon & Garfunkel, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Santana, Greatful Dead, Animals, Yes, Emerson, Lake, & Palmer (ELP), Bob Dylan, Bruce Springstein, Beatles, Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, King Crimson, The Band, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Bob Marley, The Temptations, James Brown, Sly & The Family Stone, Buffalo Springfield, Lou Reed, Janis Jopplin, Steppenwolf, and so so many more. These "bands" changed the lives of all of us that lived through that period of time. The music was vibrantly diverse which touched the souls of all of us, young and old. Example, my grandfather introduced me to the Moody Blues, my mother loved Pictures At An Exhibition (ELP), my father, the opera singer, loves ELO, Pink Floyd, and Edgar Winter's Frankenstein. Unfortunately, today, we need to change to specialized channels to hear "Classic Rock," "Rap," "R&B," "Latino," "Pop," etc.. Very rare do we hear all these types of music on one radio station in the present times. Things seem "departmentalized." Kind of like "Divide & Conquer." Not the message we, or I experienced back in the 60"s and 70's. However, the music of that time proliferates in today's artist music because of its overwhelming impact and style. Everyone in the music business today is using "Rock Riffs" in Country, Rap, Alternative, Speed, Trash, Punk, Latino music, and so on. That is why I focused on Rock & Roll music. Sorry it took so long to get to the point but, it merits such attention.
